I’d been turning down invitations from my sister to go out, but on one particular evening, I decided to join her and her husband at a friend's party. As we stood by the bonfire, I noticed a guy in a cowboy hat who caught my eye. I secretly hoped he’d come over and strike up a conversation.
As the night unfolded, Gavin’s mom asked if he was ready to leave, but Gavin, with a twinkle in his eye, said he wanted to speak to the blonde first—me. What followed was a conversation that felt as easy as breathing, and I learned that Gavin was stationed in Anniston and was leaving the next day. Despite the short time frame, he made sure we went on our first date before heading out. That date turned into a lifetime of love, as we’ve been together ever since.

Fast forward to last Labor Day, I was under the impression we were simply getting dressed up to visit my sister’s house for family pictures. Little did I know, Gavin had been meticulously planning a surprise proposal. The moment unfolded so beautifully that it took my breath away. Surrounded by both my family and Gavin’s, it was a proposal that was more than I could have ever imagined. The joy and love shared in that moment made it a day I’ll treasure forever.
